Commenting on the Show, the Judges noted greater attention to detail in the Winemaking overall and a resulting trend towards more subtlety and finesse in the Wines. Winemakers are clearly responding to consumer demand for more interesting wines and to ensure that regional Winemaker’s stay in touch with consumer trends, the Mudgee Wine Grape Growers Association will be conducting Winemaking seminars on an ongoing basis.
Mudgee’s traditional Wine varieties including Cabernet, Shiraz, Chardonnay and Semillon all performed well and the Judges also responded favourably to emerging varietals including Petit Verdot, Tempranillo and Zinfandel. The ageing potential of Mudgee Whites, particularly Semillon was also highlighted in the Museum classes.
