RULES
JUDGING IS CONDUCTED IN TWO STAGES
STAGE 1
EXHIBITS ARE PRESENTED BLIND TO FIVE PANELS OF JUDGES WHO SELECT THE BEST WINES FOR RE-ASSESSING IN STAGE 2. THE CHAIRMAN OF JUDGES HUON HOOKE WILL HEAD FIVE PANELS CONSISTING OF A PANEL CHAIR, TWO JUDGES AND AN ASSOCIATE JUDGE. PANEL MEMBERS ARE CHOSEN FROM THE WINE, FOOD AND MEDIA INDUSTRIES BASED ON THEIR WINE JUDGING CREDENTIALS.
STAGE 2
THE WINES SELECTED FROM STAGE 1 WILL BE RE-ASSESSED BY THE SIX MOST SENIOR ASSESSORS TO DETERMINE THE TOP 40 WINES OF NEW SOUTH WALES. FROM THE TOP 40 THE CATEGORY WINNERS ARE SELECTED. ONE OF THESE IS JUDGED NSW WINE OF THE YEAR.
TROPHY WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT THE 2010 NSW WINE AWARDS PRESENTATION DINNER ON MONDAY 18 OCTOBER 2010. DETAILS FROM www.nswwine.com.au.
REGULATIONS
A. An exhibitor shall mean a Person, Partnership, Association, Co-operative, Company or Corporate Body, licensed to sell wine under its own registered trading marks and under which the exhibit will finally be sold and which in the opinion of the Awards organising committee:
(i) Manufactures wine, or
(ii) Grows grapes and has wine manufactured for him/her or it, for the purpose of sale by wholesale or by retail under the name or preferred business name of the Exhibitor, as stated in the application for entry.
B. All exhibited wines must originate from NSW according to the Australian Wine & Brandy Corporation Export Regulation Amendment 1993, the Australian Wine & Brandy Corporation Amendment Act 1993 (which includes G.I.C. & register of Protected Names) and LIP (1989). Varietal wines must be at least 85% of the variety.
All exhibits shall conform to the respective Acts of the States & Commonwealth of Australia which govern the production of Australian Wines & Brandy, including but not limited to: the Customs & Excise Act; Health Act, Spirit Act and the Regulations relevant to such Acts.
C. Organic Award - wines considered for this award can be either certified organic or organic-under-conversion.
D. Stock Volume:
(i) Recent Vintages:
White Wines and Light Reds from 2011 to 2009, Red Wines from 2011 to 2008. Minimum of 100 dozen x 750ml bottles or equivalent at time of entry or time of judging.
(ii) Older Vintages: White Wines 2008 and older. Red wines 2007 and older. Minimum of 50 dozen x 750ml bottles or equivalent at time of entry or time of judging.
(iii) Sweet White, Sparkling Wines
Minimum of 50 dozen x 750ml bottles or equivalent at time of entry or time of judging.
E. Exhibitor Entries - All entries must be:
- Bottled, fully dressed (including commercial label) & ready for sale in the Australian market at the time of judging. WINES BEARING INCOMPLETE OR HAND WRITTEN INFOMATION WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.
- Available for sale at time of Exhibition or to be released within days of the NSW Wine Award announcements.
- Sparkling wines must be fermented in this bottle. Entry Fee: $60.00 + GST per exhibit.
- Entries not paid by time of judging will be withdrawn.
- Number of bottles per exhibit required: 4 bottles.
- The Committee or a representative of the Committee reserves the right to inspect the integrity of all exhibits and their stock volumes.
- PLEASE NOTE: Exhibit labels are not sent.
F. Supply Commitment:
2011 NSW Wine Awards Trophy Presentation Dinner at Guillaume at Bennelong: Two dozen of each of the trophy winners will be required free of charge.
Top 40 public and trade tasting (20 October): As part of the NSW Wine promotion strategy the NSWWIA will host a trade and consumer tasting for the Top 40 winners on Thursday 20 October. This will require up to two dozen 750ml (or equivalent) bottles required at no charge. In addition, for each Top 40 Wine, participating wineries will contribute $200 (+GST) towards the cost of venue hire and advertising, and supply two personnel to serve their wine and host the event, one of whom must be either the winemaker or principal.
Trophy Dinner - Tetsuya's - an additional one dozen may be required for this dinner to be held on Tuesday, October 18.
Note: All finalists contacted for additional wine are committed to embargoed information until after the Trophy Presentation.
